Brrrrrr… it is cold here in NYC.
I have been craving something rich and satisfying for breakfast. Oats are especially yummy this time of year, but if you do not mix-up the toppings you might get a lil bored! The other morning I was rummaging through my cabinets to find some perfect ingredient to create a new buzz to my morning routine. Chocolate is always the right answer. Throwing a spoon or two of cocoa into the oats creates a whole rich and satisfying breakfast. Try it out…. oh, and coffee doesn’t hurt either ;).
– 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk
– 1/2 cup of fresh H20
– 1/2 cup of oats
– sprinkle of salt
– 1-2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
– 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
– fruit of your choice
– handful of pecans
- bring milk & water to boil
- add oats (regular or quick cook)
- add sprinkle of salt
- last minute of cooking throw in: cocoa, vanilla, and fruit (I love to warm berries up but prefer bananas on top).
- put into bowl and add remaining toppings.

Well hello there,
How are you? Is 2015 going well?
This year has been a bit unique for me. Usually I have all of my goals, ideas, and dreams in order before the year even takes off. An especially hectic holiday season mixed with travel left me supposedly behind. I say supposedly because I have felt so much joy and fun from playing hooky! No blog posts, no 2015 goals, no intentions for January. Do not get me wrong, I love setting goals and having a clear vision of all the possibilities my life has to offer…
However, a significant insight over the years has been the ability
to allow not only the experience yet the goal itself.
When we force goals to come, they may carry with them the energy of duty. That energy does not make me want to execute the goal! I utilize goals because they set my passion on fire – not because it is what I ‘ought’ to do. I use them to have even more fun! If we take the time to have fun and let go, the ideas that flow are much juicier. Just like ya have to let fruit ripen before biting in, respecting your goal’s gestation period is essential.
The best part of all this is if you did not quite make your New Year’s resolution (or have already fallen off the wagon) you can begin now or whenever it feels good.
Here are 3 awesome ways to nourish your goals while they blossom:
(1) Tilt – Do you remember the feeling of being on a slide as a little kid?? That fast, free flow ride came from simply tilting your body weight forward. The fun just occurred naturally – you did not have to do much. Approach goals the same way… Tilt into them and trust the ride.
(2) To flow, let go – Do not wait for Spring to do a deep cleaning. Let go of physical things right now that no longer serve you. When you create space, you have space to hold new experiences.
(3) Do not listen to me – Well, now don’t ya feel like ya just wasted a few minutes reading this post? lol. What I really mean is: simply take what resonates, whether it’s from me or anyone else. Trusting your own instinct is the fastest way to manifest any goal. If you have a great system keep it going! Write those goals and go get ‘em. Have fun in the process (that’s really what it all comes down to).

Several of us struggle with body image; for some it is a chronic issue. Both societal and familial pressure is exacerbated during the holidays. Moreover, holiday gatherings centered around food may lead to intense frustration. As a yoga guide I work with students to bring awareness back to the physical body and appreciation for everything it can do rather than what expectations it may not perfectly fit. As a young female poet I have reflected on my own body image. Having the lived experience of being bombarded by all of the above has shaped both my personal and professional life. Wait, Weight, Wait
Just wait, before you finish you day,
The thought of pounds, your weight,

To those waiting to lose weight.
This constant debate in our society has us
Waiting to weigh in. With our money, time, and health.
Waiting for truth to weight-loss cannot be bought.
Just STOP eating what they tell you is good,
And follow your heart – set yourself apart.
Today I want to share with you some simple tips for late autumn. Here in NYC the air is crisp and Thanksgiving is this week! As you might have experienced, this time of year our bodies go into storing mode inoder to prepare for the colder months. Ergo, heavier processed foods become appealing (e.g., dairy, packaged food, etc…). Instead of allowing cravings to dictate our plate, we can select seasonally appropriate foods to center our bodies for now and the colder months ahead. Traditional Macrobiotic meals are my favorite go-tos this late in fall. Root vegetables, adzuki beans, brown rice, and greens are all great options. Oatmeal is divine for breakfast, have fun by adding your favorite nuts and fruit.
Umeboshi plums are another great macrobiotic treat when you are feeling a little weak or spacey from the changing season. The yin fruit mixed with yang energies of salt and time allow for a nice, balancing effect (add some to a cup of kukicha tea and zap your hangover).
Most importantly, however, make sure to get outside and enjoy the beauty. Go to the park, appreciate the winds of change, and reap the harvest of all your healthy efforts.
