M.C. Yogi’s Only Love is Real

Hi there!

I must share with you my love for M.C. Yogi’s new album, Only Love is Real. It was released on January 6th (my birthday!). The past couple of weeks I have been listening to the words and letting the energy of it marinate. I thought: “What better week than Valentine’s to write about it?” Only love is real, but to truly feel that with someone else, we first need to align our own energy.

If you need inspiration or if you are ready to take your vibes to a whole new level, you should definitely check out Only Love is Real. It is easy to find high vibe playlists, yet a full album is a rare gift. Add this energy to your sadhana or daily commute; you will feel a difference.

My 3 favorite songs:

Track 6 Light House – This soft yet upbeat song is mesmerizing.

Track 9 Dancing in the sun – Are you having the winter blues? This song will get you over it fast! Turn it on during sun salutations and feel the heat.

Track 11 Heaven is Here – Listen to this track during the first couple of minutes of meditation or while you are on an especially hectic commute. Simply beautiful.

Thank you for reading! Enjoy your week.

Warmly,

Genni.

El Greco in New York closes this weekend

Hello,

Today I had a wonderful opportunity to swing by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see its commemoration of El Greco’s 400th death anniversary. The exhibit, El Greco in New York, displays a mixture of the artist’s religious works as well as portraits and landscapes. In fact, the famous View of Toledo is on presentation. El Greco created during the Spanish Renaissance, yet has had an obvious influence on modern artists. Most notably Picasso; there are parallels seen in both his his blue plus cubism periods.

If in the New York area over the next few days, please take the time to see this fantastic exhibit!

Warmly,

Genni.

la grande bellezza

Dear Readers,

I’ve missed you! I hope 2014 has started off well for you. I am thrilled to get Wellness Wednesday going for the New Year.

I have been moving to a new apartment and preparing for my spring semester in graduate school. Amidst the craziness, however, I have made the time to relax and watch some excellent movies. My favorite – by far – this award season is Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty. The movie makes one question not only the meaning of ‘art’, but also the meaning of life. Is a great artist a writer with a singular masterpiece, an over-published socialite, or perhaps a gifted child? Maybe none of them are, maybe they all are. More importantly: How does the process of creation connect you with your higher-self?

As you know from my other blog entries, art and the process of creation are essential in healing. Furthermore, simply sharing a film with someone you care about is a wonderful way to restore your energy. So, please go support this Golden Globe winning film!

Warmly,

Genni Lee Hester.

must see film: short term 12

Hello,

Yesterday I saw the film Short Term 12 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. I was emotionally transported to places in my life I have not thought about in years, while simultaneously finding a deep sense of compassion for humanity. The film artistically and thoughtfully explores the world of children who are often forgotten, so we think. It unveils the possibility we each have when we simply care. Please find the trailer below and go support this truly phenomenal film. Have a peaceful Sunday.

With love,

Gen.
