weight-loss, body image, and holiday expectations

Leave a comment

Several of us struggle with body image; for some it is a chronic issue. Both societal and familial pressure is exacerbated during the holidays. Moreover, holiday gatherings centered around food may lead to intense frustration. As a yoga guide I work with students to bring awareness back to the physical body and appreciation for everything it can do rather than what expectations it may not perfectly fit. As a young female poet I have reflected on my own body image. Having the lived experience of being bombarded by all of the above has shaped both my personal and professional life. Today I share a poem from my book memoirs of the am. May it inspire you and help you find comfort during the holiday chaos. If you feel out-of-conrol regarding this topic, stop struggling and try a new approach. You can contact me for my online coaching sessions where we develop strategies together to overcome anxiety. It is a choice, luckily there is help along the path.

Wait, Weight, Wait

Just wait, before you finish you day,
The thought of pounds, your weight,
Will most likely come to mind.

Don’t worry; it’s part of the design.
I want to prosecute the crime of this confusion.

Showing size zeros;
Those with eating disorders.
Yet, providing innutritious food,
To those waiting to lose weight.

This constant debate in our society has us
Waiting to weigh in. With our money, time, and health.

Waiting for truth to weight-loss cannot be bought.
Just STOP eating what they tell you is good,
And follow your heart – set yourself apart.

Don’t weight.
