Sun Salutation

I saluted the sun,
On the East River.
Watching it sweep over a city that never sleeps.

Wondering about the rays,
What is nature trying to say?
I love this place, but I have forgotten how to pray.

To be at one with nature is a distant dream.
The toxins, the noise, the entire scene.

I saluted the sun,
In my gym class.
Never seeing it behind the walls of cement.

Yoga is exercise, no spiritual path.
It is all a part of the lotus flower’s death.

Physicality has replaced spirituality,
Casually it may seem.
Going back to nature will only be in those distant
dreams.
